I was at the Beth Moore simulcast a week ago, and she stopped at one point in the midst of her message and asked, "Are you taking notes?" At first I thought it was a general question, intended to wake us up so we didn't miss something important.
The camera followed her off the platform to the shadows of the front row where she followed up her original question. "How old are you?" A 10 year old in the front row caught her attention. I can only hope her next words had the impact on that young girl as they did me...
"The Word of God will be on your tongue."
Can you imagine?
Would you feel that you'd been struck by lightening if a speaker (Beth Moore no less!) stopped their message to say those words to you?
And her mother! I can only imagine that mom going home and writing on her blog or in her journal about that message to her daughter. One of those instances like when Jesus told Mary "didn't you know I'd be about my Father's business?" and Mary went away and "treasured all these things in her heart." (Luke 2:41-52)
I believe that all 70,000 of us might have seen a prophecy at that moment (and that is not something I say often--maybe ever--or lightly). Beth Moore recognized the spirit of that young girl; a heart that is seeking to take in God's word so that, as we were reminded "Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee." May it be so, Lord.
Beth's message was rich with so many things to take away, but it was that exchange that stuck with me as I drove home.
10 years old.
Taking notes.
God's Word.
Beth noting that a child seeking God's word at that age has the potential to accomplish great things for God.
My oldest son is 5. He's heading off to kindergarten in a couple weeks. It feels like such a deadline to me. He'll be exposed to kids that I don't know and might not approve of. He'll be taught things that we don't necessarily agree with. Sure, I could keep him home and teach him myself and monitor all his playmates, but for now, that isn't what God has called our family to do.
It does make me aware though of making the most of the time that I do have with him. I need to make our moments together count. "Impress (these things) upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." (Deut. 6:7)
Bug knows all his letters and is beginning to recognize words, but he's not really able to "take notes" in the sense we saw that night. But he can read my life. As Paul said, "You are a letter of Christ...written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts." (2 Cor. 3:2-3)
I am struck that I want to be sure to live my life in a way that when my son is 10, he is ready to listen to a new level of teaching; that he's ready to hear someone say, "The word of God will be in your heart."

Oh, the goosebumps are flowing as the Spirit of God is currently witnessing to my heart the truth of Beth's prophetic words over this young life.
You, my friend, have painted for me the most beautiful portrait of a weekend that did not know my participation. I've read umpteen reviews of the simulcast, but this image you've penned encapsulates the truth of what we should all take home with us after such a time of retreat.
The Word of God on our tongues.
Thank you, thank you. I'm just in tears over here. And for your son? You keep speaking that Word and before long, it will be the scripted language of his heart. Not because your force it to be that way, but simply because you are faithful to give him his anchor.
UMMM....ummm...ummm. That's southern for "mighty powerful word."

I don't think I'll ever forget that sight myself. I was awestruck. Yes, surely God's Word will indeed be upon her tongue for out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. I believe with all my heart that an unusual love for God in the heart of any child is a divine gift. And I pray that same gift over your darling one. I was so blessed by this post. How He must enjoy you!
Stay in the Word, Sweet Thing! It brings 100-fold if we let it!

Thank you for this sweet blog. What a great message, full of blessing scriptures. I wrote them down.
I love your comment on Lysa's blog and followed you here. I'm glad I'm not the only one not smiling when see a snake. I saw one in my hen's nest and I screamed so loud, everyone thought something was wrong with me. Slithering creatures have never been my friends. I'm sure God created them for a specific reason, but I don't like seeing the sight of them.
Elaine--thanks for your encouraging words. Isn't it great how God can bless others when we think to share how He's blessed us? I know His word is in your "fingertips" and He will continue to bless others through you.
Beth--Thank you so much for stopping by and for your gracious words. Thank you also for being obedient to His call on your life. I know it isn't easy and fun and glamorous; there is great responsibility that goes with teaching His word. Thank you for your words of blessing to my son--"from your mouth to His ears!"
Mrs.Proverbs31--I'm so glad you found me and I hope you'll come again. I have a soft spot for the Proverbs 31 lady myself; you'll see more of her around here from time to time. (check out this post as an introduction to her from my point of view).
And may your hen house be snake free!
What an amazing young girl! The power and passion of young people can be so very profound.
At 10 I certainly wasn't taking notes during sermons, but I was at 16. And sadly, it's been a long time since I did take notes during a sermon. I need to try to get back to the passion I had as a young person.
My heart is beating so fast ... as I realize the impact of your words. I will share your words of testimony with our MOPS, for I have the honor of being their mentor mom. May you experience a downpour of refreshing moments today, my new sweet friend!
May we always "take notes" of Jesus moments ... Praise Him!
Elaine sent me here, and I'm so glad that she did. Your thoughts written are so amazing and I love how Beth always seems to pour herself out to the different ages. No one is left out, and it causes me to hunger to be more like that. Investing in each one that God brings into my path. Young through to the mature in age.
I'm going to print this off, and add it to my own notes, because I can so cleary see her walking up that precious 10 year old DAUGHTER OF THE KING.
Lovingly,
Yolanda
hit me hard too. may i be like that little girl- writing and soaking it in- then living it out! awesome post.
I came over to your site from Genny's. I am enjoying it here.
Your post about what Beth said is very touching. I have done many of her studies and enjoy her very much. Did you happen to do the Daniel study and see her in Keith's hunting gear?
I was very concerned when my son started school as well. Up until he started school, pretty much all of his association was with friends from church or with friends of ours that we have known a very long time.
He is (2nd grade now) exposed to things I'm sure I wouldn't like. He is very much grounded in the Lord and I bet your son is too. His teacher will have a big impact on him, no doubt, but so will you.
This year we started reading from his Bible every morning before we leave for school. He loves it and I love it. Its also a great way to sneak in a prolonged hug. You know how those boys can be!
