So how has your "summer vacation" been? Overall, ours was kind of a washout. In the interest of full disclosure I'll have to admit that I tend to get rather high expectations for "lasts." You know, "the last time I go out with my girlfriends before we get married," "the last time we'll eat at this restaurant before we move 800 miles away,"..."the last summer before our first child enters the world of 'real' school."
Yeah, this is that summer for us. And instead of being a footloose and fancy free, traveling the west kind of summer, it was really a nose-to-the-grindstone-stick-close-to-home kind of summer. We barely left the county, let alone the state, and I think our only overnight trip was a quick 24-hour jaunt to The City to meet some famous bloggers at BlogHer and to ride the cable cars from the beginning to the end and back again. And then we hurried home to get grinding again.
And alas and alack, (what's an 'alack' anyway?) School starts in a week. And next week there's orientation on one day and the "Back to School BBQ" on another, so in essence, our last unofficial week of summer ended today. Phoo.
So this is where you come in. Help a girl out and let me live vicariously. What was your summer vacation like? Did you take any fabulous trips? Have any memorable getaways? Tell me about it! (And feel free to link to any blog entries you might have made on the subject.)

I feel the same way...this summer went by so fast that it almost didn't feel like summer. I think I made the mistake of signing up for too many camps and activities. Next summer I want to try to set aside more time to just "play" and swim, and do summer stuff with the kids.
Great blog!
I think this has been one of our best summers. Just enjoying the family. Our kids are becoming more and more independent so when we're together, I'm really savoring it. Just trying to stay content with it all :)
School starts 8/25 for my 3 kids. I can't believe it!
Sandy
No, we stuck close to home, except for my trip to She Speaks and a few days to the mountains. It was the hardest summer I've ever walked and went extremely fast! My kids started last week, and I for one, am over the moon because of it!
Enjoy the time that remains.

We haven't had our summer vacation yet- you know the summer schedule for a youth pastor is crrrazy so we are getting ready to have ours (post labor day). Kind of nice since we are doing Disneyland with our 5 and 3 year-olds and we hate crowds and lines =).
C--If Bug didn't still have an aversion to "characters" (he still hates big, costumed beings) I'd be really tempted to meet you at Mickey's place! (It's ok to miss a day or two of Kindergarten, right?)
Have a great trip to the NW; hug the bride and groom for us and tell everyone we miss them!
Caught your blog again ... had to respond. My pastor/husband and I had an amazing summer! We took some of our church and went to Zambia ... 17,800 made decisions for Jesus Christ. It was an unbelievable experience!! Changed my life!!! (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Wow Denise! I can see where that would be an indescribably memorable trip! Thanks for sharing. (And if you've got a blog where you have more details, I'd love to know.)
I heard about Blogher on another pod-cast. I tried to register, but there some problems. How was that. I am intereted in the group.
We did small trips instead of a big vacation (you have read about them on my blog).
I think this is easier with young kids. There is a small change of scenery, but soon everyone is home sleeping in their own bed.
